Strengthening Bonds: A Cultural Exchange Journey with Assumption Iloilo and Assumption Kokusai

Between August 19 and September 2, 2023, Assumption Iloilo warmly hosted a group of Japanese learners from Assumption Kokusai, Osaka, Japan, as part of the Assumption Learners Exchange Program. The program, aimed at nurturing the Assumption Spirit in both school communities, welcomed the visitors, including Miss Cecile Adrias, a former English Teacher at Assumption Iloilo and now an English teacher at Assumption Kokusai, along with Miss Naomi Tanzawa, the school’s principal.

During their two-week sojourn in Iloilo, the Japanese learners actively participated in various classes and immersed themselves in the local culture. They explored heritage sites, were hosted by local families, and experienced the richness of Filipino culture in a familial setting. A memorable evening with the sisters featured a delightful tea ceremony, celebrating Sr. Fe’s birthday and further enhancing their cultural experience.

Despite challenging weather conditions, the learners ventured to Assumption Passi and Assumption Barrio Obrero, expanding their exploration. The pinnacle of their stay culminated in a special program during the Filipino Week Celebration. Alongside Miss Naomi Tanzawa, the Japanese learners learned and performed a traditional Filipino dance on their last day, leaving a lasting impression on the audience with their remarkable performance.

This cultural exchange program was a deeply enriching experience, fostering stronger bonds and contributing to the shared family Spirit that defines the Assumption community.
